The cover photo of my first devotional book depicts a glorious sunrise at the beautiful and remote Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. I chose this setting because it seemed perfect for capturing the intimacy of that secret place deep within the heart where you reach out to Jesus, and He responds across time and space and place to personalize His love for you.

The rising sun reminds me of some of my favorite Scriptures. First, “Dawn will turn into morning splendor.” (Prov. 4:18-20 as quoted in the Living Bible) As meaningful as the beginning of your relationship with Christ is, it grows more and more beautiful when you continue your faithful walk with Him.

This landscape at sunrise also reminds me that “His mercies are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:23) How could we move forward if we did not have the reassurance that we can always receive forgiveness and a fresh anointing, knowing we are completely forgiven

because of the Cross.

The sunrise can be seen by all, yet there are certain rays that only reach you. This evokes the sense of those private moments you share one-on-one in prayer and contemplation with the Savior.

Notice how the morning light pierces through all the darkness at Mesa Arch.

Jesus is the light of the world and shines His light upon all His children. There is no shadow of turning when the light of Heaven illuminates your path. (James 1:17)

Finally, the rocky landscape reminds me that He is our strong and never-failing Rock. He will forever be our firm foundation.
